A man who had reportedly been in an
altercation with a bar bouncer and harassed people in Venice on Tuesday night
was shot and killed by Los Angeles police officers after a struggle, according
to LAPD officials.
Officers with the LAPD’s Pacific
Division were called to the area around Windward and Pacific avenues about
11:30 p.m. after witnesses reported a man described as a transient harassing
passersby, said Officer Liliana Preciado.
She said the man had reportedly been in
a physical altercation with a bouncer earlier in the night.
The first officers on scene got into a
confrontation with the man, and he was shot, Preciado said. It was not
immediately known if more than one officer fired or how many times the man was
shot.
Preciado said the man, who was in his
20s, was taken to a hospital, where he died.
The man was unarmed, and the officers
were not injured in the incident, Preciado said.
