A man and his 6-month-old son were
killed late Thursday when he walked onto the 10 Freeway in Beaumont after
getting into an argument with his girlfriend, officials said.
Shortly after 10 p.m., Miguel Mariscal,
40, of Beaumont got into an argument with his girlfriend at their home and
walked out with their son, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Soon after, CHP dispatchers received
reports of a man holding an infant in his arms while crossing the eastbound 10
Freeway between the 60 Freeway and Beaumont Avenue.
Then, about 10:25 p.m., Marsical, who
was still holding his child, walked directly into the path of Toyota Prius, CHP
officials said.
After Marsical and his son were struck
by the Toyota, two other vehicles hit them.
Marsical and his son, whose identity
hasn’t been released, died at the scene.
CHP officials said they don’t know why
Marsical crossed the freeway with his son and whether it was his intended
route.
