The investigation into the first fatal
deputy-involved shooting in Cerritos in nearly a decade continued Friday, with
detectives combing a vehicle involved in the shooting for evidence.
The shooting occurred Thursday afternoon
in the 17200 block of Pires Avenue, just a couple of blocks away from where the
deputy’s investigation began on Beach Street.
Deputies had been called to the area
after a resident reported a woman had knocked on her door and asked for someone
who didn’t live there. The woman got into a car and left, but the resident took
down the license plate and car’s description and gave it to deputies when they
arrived to take a report.
Officials say deputies found the car
around the corner on Palm Place parked along a curb with the woman standing outside
the car.
One deputy detained her while another
checked the car, the department said in a news release.
